PE Reflection

What did you enjoy most about PE this year?  What did you enjoy least about PE this year? I liked being able to play and collaborate with a lot of different people, and my teammates were all supportive when I messed up, most people also made conscious efforts to pass and include everyone. It was also interesting to try such as wide variety of sports. What I didn't really enjoy was running the mile, but it was still important because it made me persevere in the end. I definitely improved over the year, but it wasn't my favorite because I'm not a runner. 2. What units did you enjoy most?  What units would you add or change? I really liked the water polo unit, because though I enjoyed swimming, it was mainly because everyone was involved and having fun in that unit. I also had fun in floor hockey, soccer and field for similar reasons. It would be interesting if there were a dance/gymnastics/yoga unit, because it's a different type of fitness and it would help s...

Addiction Video

Image
This video talked a lot about how we get addicted so that we understand what's fully happening to our brain. I liked it because it explained how first of all, we can get addicted to many things other than drugs, because our brain is balanced and addictions throw our brain off. When offering solutions, it talks about how those solutions also affect the brain, so it's easier to understand which solutions work best for the differing types of addiction. I learned more about how addicts feel and why they can't stop because of a system that we all have. It was also interactive and though he used a lot of big words, he explained everything clearly.

Fitness Plan Decide Sheet

My fitness goal is to improve my cardio and stamina so that I can run my mile faster. This will be useful in many sports so that I don't get tired as fast. I will run 2-3 days a week for 30-45 minutes each time, and I will know that my plan is working when my mile time is below 7:50 (now it is 8:05). Here is the link to my plan sheet: https://docs.google.com/document/d/13CZYllVLbfXb2C4-tooPqGIXiUQmkMa47Pr7B_od08g/edit

Health and RLA Feature Article

Image
Body image. It affects girls around the globe, and there is one main culprit. Previously, you both know that I had written a social issues story that tied in with body image. It matters to me, so I decided to write a feature article about it. There is a reason that I'm writing about body image. Did you know that for the first time this year, two of my classes joined together to create one big assignment for us? Try and guess which class joined with RLA. It's the one you would never think of; it is PE! In health class (which is a part of PE where we learn about wellness), we were going to write an article about a topic that came up often in teenagers. Meanwhile, in RLA, we were going to write a non-fiction article too. So for the past few weeks, I've researched and written about body image. I have put in a lot of work; like choosing a topic and slant, finding evidence to support my ideas as well as understand my topic and putting that information into an article/essay. ...

Project Adventure Reflection

In PE, we just finished up the project adventure unit. Its main focus is collaboration, and one my tasks was to create a game with a group of people. Name: Crawlers Rules: this game is similar to four corners. First, the teacher will close their eyes and everyone else will run around in the gym. The gym must be rectangular and have four corners. After 10-20 seconds, the teacher will yell "STOP!". Everyone will have reach the nearest corner as soon as possible, and after waiting five seconds, the teacher will point at a corner. Whoever is in that corner has to go down on their hands and knees, starting a new round. However, this time, (in addition to the corners) the crawlers will chase anyone that's up, and if you're tagged by one, you also have to go down on your hands and knees. The object of the game is to be the last one standing. Notes: if the teacher points at a corner before you reach one, you'll be out. Also, if you are a crawler, you can't get bac...

Healthy Snack Reflection

Orange Cranberry Muffin Recipe 1 tablespoon orange zest 1/2 cup orange juice 1 large egg 1/4 cup olive oil 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 cup honey 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon kosher salt 1/2 cup dried cranberries, chopped Preheat the oven to 375°F Mix the orange zest, orange juice, egg, oil and honey. Add in the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt; whisk to incorporate. Stir in the cranberries. Divide the mixture among the muffin tins, filling the tins about 3/4 full, and bake until the muffins are golden and push back when gently pressed, 20 to 25 minutes. Makes 12 muffins. 1. I thought that my snack was pretty healthy, because I swapped out sugar for honey, had lots of Vitamin C, and checked all ingredient labels. I had no processed sugar, just natural. However, I could have improved the recipe by using whole wheat or almond flour instead of all-purpose flour. Also, it didn't have...

Effective Communication Reflection

I have a little brother and I love him, a lot. But sometimes we can get into huge fights, and we expect the other one to cave. When no one caves, we both yell at each other. Since both of us do piano, neither of us like going first. Either we have homework that we forgot about because of school and everything, or we want to keep doing whatever we are doing. This Saturday, 15 minutes before our class started, I told him that he needed to go first. He didn't want to, because he was watching youtube. Instead of fighting/making up reasons/yelling, I decided to act mature and accept, just to help him out.  I used the communication tool acting calm and as a role model. It should make him respect me more. The relief on his face was also kind of nice to see too. I did in the end go first, but at least we weren't fighting like usual. I will use this on my family and friends who I fight with. Next Saturday, this is an option, but at the very least, I have leverage against him because si...

Tennis Reflection

Are you in a forward facing ready position? I am in a ready position, with my chest facing forward, however I need to bend my knees a bit more. I also think I need to be in a more flexible position. When the ball comes, do you move by dropping your racket foot back? Yes, I drop my foot back and then step forward with my other foot. Do you have a steady wrist? Yes, because my racket swings through smoothly. Do you start stroke low, then swing up and over the ball to impart topspin to the ball? I do start low and swing up, but I hit the ball at a lower level here. Two things I think I am doing well with my forehand swing are… Keeping my wrist firm, because my racket doesn't really waver much. It just glides through and hits the ball. Another thing is that I am prepared to hit the ball at waist level, although this ball was a little lower than what I had anticipated. I started going higher with my racket, but then lowered it quickly so that I didn't m...

How to Improve Your Muscular Strength

Image
Physical fitness is important! To have upper body strength, you need to be fit enough to do a push-up. Push-ups aren't that easy, though. As this video shows, some people have trouble. So, everyone thought hard about how to improve push-ups. We came up with certain exercises that help you get what you need to do a push-up, and a bonus to help you do more push-ups as soon as you do a proper one. The role I played in this video is actress of course, but also to write the scenes/script. Everyone came up with exercises, so me and Avantika brainstormed ways to present them. We created the scene and tried to make it entertaining (the boys helped with that), so the reader would get information and want to watch it. If you struggle with push-ups, this video is for you. Enjoy!
