Project Adventure Reflection

In PE, we just finished up the project adventure unit. Its main focus is collaboration, and one my tasks was to create a game with a group of people.

Name: Crawlers
Rules: this game is similar to four corners. First, the teacher will close their eyes and everyone else will run around in the gym. The gym must be rectangular and have four corners. After 10-20 seconds, the teacher will yell "STOP!". Everyone will have reach the nearest corner as soon as possible, and after waiting five seconds, the teacher will point at a corner. Whoever is in that corner has to go down on their hands and knees, starting a new round. However, this time, (in addition to the corners) the crawlers will chase anyone that's up, and if you're tagged by one, you also have to go down on your hands and knees. The object of the game is to be the last one standing.
Notes: if the teacher points at a corner before you reach one, you'll be out. Also, if you are a crawler, you can't get back up. It's designed to be a quick game if you have a few extra minutes.

What were the challenges/difficulties of working together as a team?

First, my team had a few people that were off task, so we had to keep them on track. Also, We had trouble agreeing on one idea. My team is really good at carrying out the work, but we aren't the best at coming up with original ideas. Finally, (this has more to do with me) I find myself collaborating much less in PE than my other classes. My team were good friends and pretty familiar, so I felt a little excluded. I had to push myself to be a part of my team, so collaborating with everyone is a skill we all could work on.

What was the benefit of working together?

For these kinds of activities, it was fun to have a team when I opened up more. When someone came up with an idea, our team kept fine-tuning it by asking useful questions. It is good to have people to check your work and add ideas in.

Discuss ways that your team problem solved to make the game better (this could have been as the class played the game). How would you modify the game if you played it again?

We realised that people were getting back up after going down, and some weren't getting into corners. So we clarified our rules and make a new rule that if you weren't in a corner, you were out. Our game wasn't quite meant for a small gym too, so we decided that it's meant to play in a big gym.

What did YOU contribute to the team?

I was more shy toward my team, but when it came to coming up with a general idea, that's what I did. Me and another member spouted a lot of ideas, and the rest fine-tuned it.
