Artifact- Excavation

Egypt Excavation

I grabbed my paintbrush and a pick and head for the excavation site, where we had already dug up many ancient Egyptian artifacts like vases and pieces of beautifully crafted pottery. It was a hot day here in Egypt, sweat was already pouring off my face. The heat reminded me of the time we dug in an area that was once an ocean when I was a little girl. I had found my first fossil of an old fish. I saw a shiny object in the ground at my feet. Excited, I effortlessly dug the coin out. However (I did absolute dating), it was modern since it said “ made in 1994” on it. Someone said that they had dropped that. I prefer relative dating to absolute dating since I get to examine the artifact and compare it to things that we already know the date of (I know, I wouldn’t know the exact date, but at least I’ll have an idea of the date). Once, I remember, at my home, I decided to find out more about my mysterious neighbor by doing the only thing I knew how to, kitchen midden. I only had access to trash anyways. I was snapped back into reality when I was asked to try and find the date of and piece of jewelry. Radiocarbon dating popped into my head. I love using radiocarbon to try and find the date of something! Well, these artifacts and maybe fossils weren’t going to dig and date themselves, so I had better get to work!
