Images of Singapore

Don't you just love field trips? You get a chance out of your classroom, you have a lot of fun, and you still learn new things. That is how I spent my day. We went to the Images of Singapore in Sentosa today. I had honestly thought that it would be boring and had to spend my time writing on my sheet of paper the entire time, but I was, lets just put it this way, 100% incorrect. I had learned and recollected many things about Singapore. I had never known that Singapore was ever in war with Japan! I am also glad that we those sheets of paper because, I may have just fooled around if I didn't have them. I also thought they were easier to do than I thought!

The four winds was a big thing. The four winds were the winds that brought 4 different countries to Singapore to live in. The first is China, the second is India, third is Malaysia, and last is Europe. All of them had wishes, but the things they hoped for which valued the most were, peace, community, family, and harmony. With these things, anyone could be happy. These are the people who make up the country that we know.

When I think about it (this may sound kind of silly), I couldn't remember how Singapore found its nation. I had always thought that Singapore was, well, always the country it had been. I had always thought that it wasn't Japan who controlled Singapore, it was Malaysia. I also never knew that the country had to face the possibility of war. It took me by surprise, this story, but this how it was. Japan invaded China and Singapore. The Japanese were killing people if they did something they thought wasn't Japanese. Bombs were coming down, and many people needed to scamper away as fast as they could for some shelter. War broke out. Singapore was no longer a free nation, until the Japanese had to surrender in the 1950s, because the U.S.A. had bombed them. Finally, Singapore had completed the trip to freedom!

There were some very important jobs in Singapore. Coolies, who did work that many people would find unpleasant, like hauling heavy goods off of boats, and lived in very poor conditions (They were still important though, or this work wouldn't get done.), sailors who could go to other counties and trade, and there were even financial jobs (Stamford Raffles is the special man), that had tripled the trade from $28 million to $90 million! These jobs were quite important. There is only one job I hope they will soon add in. Soldiers! I am full to the brim with questions like, did they live in luxury or not, or something like, what was their job like (besides shooting).

This is only a few of the things that I have learned today. The history of Singapore is some interesting stuff. It is good to learn about your nation. You can learn many things on field trips. Like the four winds which you are a part of too! I have learned so many things that I am sure it would take me 4 hours to complete! I hope to go there again soon! This is one place I recommend going if you are looking for where to go on a holiday. You will also discover at least one thing that you didn't know, and you will have tons of fun!
