The Chirstalite Methodists Home
At first I was afraid. I can sometimes get nervous when around elderly and I can also get uncomfortable. I thought that they would be really stubborn or won't listen or do old people stuff. Not this warm and inviting. They were very kind and fun to work with. They loved the santa hats that we helped them decorate. Someone even played the harmonica and we all danced. I mean, not all of them were wanting to make santa hats, but were still very joyous.
The Christalite Methodists Home was a home for people who were homeless and barely had anything. Yet they were so happy. I really liked that about them. I felt very comfortable around them. We helped them make the hats, but we mostly did the glue. Everyone there was trying hard and some even did it alone. Sometimes little things slipped off, or there were no more pom-poms, but they went along with it. They listened carefully too. I love how hard they were trying and how happy the were even though they lost so many things.
I felt so happy and excited while greeting and helping them. I took a bit of time then tried to find someone who wanted a hat. I found a polite gentleman who was already sitting at the table, trying to make things stick. Quietly, I asked if he understood English and if he needed help. Slowly, I noticed myself giving him some suggestions of accessories and speaking more and more with him (in English as he understood). Then I also saw myself helping another person. I felt more relaxed then I was when I first arrived there. Soon I was starting to check the clock to make sure it wasn't almost over. I didn't want to stop helping. This was something I really loved about that place.
